location
Kilbride cottage is situated on a 'dead - end' single track lane at Totescore, 2 miles north of Uig on the Trotternish peninsula of the Isle of Skye. There is almost no passing traffic except to the 3 neighbouring cottages. The quiet surroundings with wide open spaces and no busy roads make Trotternish an ideal environment for a 'get away from it all' holiday
Trotternish
The area boasts some of the most spectacular scenery this region has to offer stunning coastal views across the Minch to the Western Isles and the 'prehistoric' landscape of the famous Trotternish Ridge. Trotternish is a walkers paradise with a wide range of terrains, every turn presents a magnificent prospect of mountains, moorland, lochs and sea.
Hundreds and millions of years of formation have resulted in a land of contrast and dramatic upheaval. It is hard to believe that the peninsula has so many famous landforms.
The Storr is a 200 foot rock pinnacle which can be seen for many miles, standing in front of the impressive mass of Storr mountain. The walk to it's base provides stunning views across the Little Minch to the munros of Torridon.
The Quiraing is equally, if not more, famous being one of the most exciting natural rock formations anywhere in Scotland... just a short drive from the Cottage.
The coast with it's many miles of beautiful cliffs, stacks, sea caves, natural arches, waterfalls and fabulous marine and bird life, provides many varied walking and exploring opportunities.
How to Get Here
From the Skye Bridge the A87 trunk road takes you past the awesome Cuillin mountain range through Skye's capital Portree and up to the small, but important ferry port of Uig. From Uig the road is single track with passing places past the hairpin bend and view points looking back across Uig bay and just a few short miles to Totescore.
An alternative, slower, but more scenic route would be via the A855 from Portree which takes you past the famous Old Man of Storr, the Trotternish Ridge, Staffin Bay, Flodigarry, Duntulm Castle and round the northernmost tip of Skye before returning southwards towards Totescore
